April    2000

April got off to a groovy start with "The Gift" an event on the grounds of
Pepperdine University overlooking the ocean in Malibu.
A beautiful day sitting on grass listing to our friend Nick performing as Twenty Twelve.
As always when Nick gets on stage there is a healthy quantity of b-sides people in attendance.
b-sides is an email list sever set up by Brad and Dana a few years ago as an alternative to socal raves
(a very large internet  mailing list  formed to discuss all things rave and underground clubbing in the Southern California.)
The Socal raves list reached a point were many of my friends
on the list of a similar age to me,  felt alienated and overwhelmed by the huge quantity of mail.
B-sides over the years has produced a close nit group of friends with our own style of  partying. Los Angeles is unlike most
cosmopolitan cities socially.  No bars on every street,  much more of a work ethic. Having the larger portion of ones friends
all on one mail list has made living in LA fun and easy when it comes to deciding on extracurricular activities.

Bliss was one of the year's best desert parties. This was the first event to collaborate both the Bliss and B-sides groups in one event.
Previous events had been organized by a collective of people from the company Ground Zero.
They choose a lovely location at the base of a mountain range. There were films made by attendees shown on a huge projection screen and
a performance piece involving the characters of "Alice in wonderland".  I was the the White Rabbit.
The music kicked in a about 10:30 pm and didn't stop till late in the morning. Lots of silly costumes came out in the morning and I finally got to
try out my electroluminescent suit for the first time that night.; I climbed a hill behind the dance floor with the suit switched off,  then at about 3:30 am
I appeared on the top of a rock fully illuminated!. From the dance floor the only thing people could see were the neon animated shapes on my
body moving in the far distance in time to the music.   It gave the impression a alien disco dancer had landed.

The next weekend and we were back at Club Giant in Hollywood. Which brought home even more to me why I love
outdoor events so much.  Long lines, security guards, crowds and large egos.
